After 4 epic days of competing Tye was the last local left standing come finals time. In fun peaky 3ft waves took on the best of the best in the blue ribbon U/16 Boys final. Harry Phillips from the South coast executed a barrage of backside snaps to open up an early lead locking in an impressive 15.23 two-wave heat total. But Tye didn’t let up throwing everything at him right to the end. Needing an 8.81 with a few minutes to go Tye put it all on the line but could only manage a 7.5 and finishing in 2nd place. A great result for the young kid and for his outstanding surfing through the event was also awarded the most outstanding male competitor of the event. Yeah Tye
After a 9th at Jan Juc a few weeks ago Tye is sitting 4th on the ratings and looks a solid chance of nabbing one of the 10 final spots available in the National Gromsearch Final at Woonoona in Jan 2018.
1 – Harry Phillips – 15.23
2 – Tye Koolis – 14.2
3 – Finn Hill – 12.66
4 – Ben Duncan – 11.24
Congrats to all other boys that competed in the event.

First light saw the beginning of a new south swell hitting northend. Winds were light SW and the swell was 5-6 ft and building with each set that came through. We set up in front of Southend surf club where it was a few feet smaller and more importantly a little more protected from the winds. By mid morning the waves were 5ft and 8 out of 10 waves were doing their best impersonation of Waimea shorey. Some deadly closeouts. But amongst the close out there were still some sick ones. The guys in A Grade really lit it up as did the Junior Boys and Open Women.
And there you have it folks. Our 31st season done and dusted! Congrats to all the 2015 Champions & perpetual trophy winners

The conditions for Comp 4 were an exact replica of Comp 3. Some solid 4 to 5ft waves in front of the surf club at Southend. Winds were straight offshore early and went a bit more SW during the day but that did not impact us. There were some solid waves ridden and a number of the surfers scoring waves in the upper end of the judging scale. In some heats it was a battle of survival as close out set after closeout set came through and in others it was way more manageable. It was really down to individual tactics to decide who progressed.
Each Final was a surfing spectacle so well done to all the finalist and Congrats to all the Divisional winners
Cadet Boys Tye Koolis
Junior Boys Max McGuigan
Open Women Emma McGuigan
A Grade Monty Tait

Max and Emma made it 4 wins from 4 wins and are in a great position to defend their titles. Wayne won his 3rd straight GM final and Monty his 2nd Open Final in a row. And congrats to Craig for winning the B Grade. It was a tie between him and Andy Ath but Craig won on countback. Well done brother. Been in many a final over the past few years and has finally nailed one.
