Tye Koolis finishes 2nd at the Rip Curl Gromsearch event

After 4 epic days of competing Tye was the last local left standing come finals time. In fun peaky 3ft waves took on the best of the best in the blue ribbon U/16 Boys final. Harry Phillips from the South coast executed a barrage of backside snaps to open up an early lead locking in an impressive 15.23 two-wave heat total. But Tye didn’t let up throwing everything at him right to the end. Needing an 8.81 with a few minutes to go Tye put it all on the line but could only manage a 7.5 and finishing in 2nd place. A great result for the young kid and for his outstanding surfing through the event was also awarded the most outstanding male competitor of the event. Yeah Tye

After a 9th at Jan Juc a few weeks ago Tye is sitting 4th on the ratings and looks a solid chance of nabbing one of the 10 final spots available in the National Gromsearch Final at Woonoona in Jan 2018.

1 – Harry Phillips – 15.23
2 – Tye Koolis – 14.2

The opening Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps presented by Wahu for 2017/2018 wrapped up on the weekend in massive surf at Collaroy Beach.

Koda Killorn surfed brilliantly to take out the Under-14 Boys division. Killorn opted to suss of the rarer left handers that were on offer over the course of the semis and final to gain the upper hand against a blistering field, posting an impressive 14.44 heat total (out of a possible 20 points). As a result, Koda received an invite into to attend an all-expenses paid, three-day Woolworths Surf Camp at the Hurley Surfing Australia High-Performance Centre (HPC). Congrats Koda.
