Surfers Rescue, last comp and EOY functions

Hi all!

Hope everyone is doing well and managing to stay out of those darn ’all in’ brawls.

Pacific Palms for last comp of the season
Looks like there will be a reasonable Southerly swell and favourable winds on the weekend, so fingers crossed we can get something similar to last year’s stellar conditions for the Pacific Palms comp. As usual we will meet at 7:30am on Saturday (October 27) at the wooden platform toward the southern end of Boomerang beach to assess the tides, swell and winds and make a call on which beach and bank we’ll surf.  Ring Pacific Palms Holidays on (02) 6554 0500 for any last minute accommodation if you still haven’t got yourself booked in. See you up there!

Surfers Rescue
After a looooong while, the government has finally realised that surfers are the ones in the water for all 12 months of the year, from before the sun rises until after it sets and accordingly are most often the ones saving people from drowning. The State Government is launching a program for members of board riding clubs to receive ‘basic’ accredited surf rescue skills/certification.
Southend Boardriders is the first cab off the rank for this new initiative and it will eventually go Australia wide with big surf companies and names (Kelly just signed up) jumping on board. So we are calling on all members who are keen (and aged 15 or over) to take part. All participants will receive nationally accredited CPR certification and learn surfboard specific rescue skills for both conscious and unconscious swimmers.
Cost: Free for Southend members
Duration:  a few hours
Date: Saturday November 3rd – probably the morning.
Location: Maroubra Beach
How to join: reply to this email to let us know or join the event on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/events/314840785289731/#!/events/314840785289731/

Southend 100 club soirée
Saturday November 10 is the date for the 100 club end of year soirée at The Rocks. There is still $2650 in cash to be given out this year and three lucky punters will walk away from the November do with $200, $750 and $1500 in the bank.
Please keep in mind that the 100 club function is exclusive to the 100 people who are financial 100 club members/badge holders, so not even wives, husbands, girlfriends, mums, brothers or pets who aren’t 100 club members can get in. RSVP to Matt on 0402 830 767 if you haven’t already.
Also, if you want to renew for 2013 and lock in the same number you have this year, you can go on line now to the Southend web site to renew at http://southendboardriders.com.au/purchase/

Southend end of season awards day
Saturday November 17 is the date for the end of year awards presentation. This year we will be banking on El Nino to deliver some stellar outdoor weather as we will set up someone near the Village Green down at Arthur Byrne Reserve and have a knock of cricket along with the usual BBQ’s, drinks, awards and prizes. We’ll kick off at 12pm.
