comp at Maroubra this season!

The surf predictions are for waves in the 3ft range and a possible combination of S and NE swells which will hopefully see peaks up and down the beach. Winds will definitely be light and offshore and the sun will be out to compliment the sizzling of bacon and eggs and the pfffffftt of freshly opened ice cold cans proudly put on by Thommo from Eastern Tiling.

For the Micro, Cadet girls and Women’s divisions – sign in by 11am. Low tide is first thing in the morning so we will probably try to get the micros in the water straight away after the sign in while the parents still have a chance of standing up out in the water – we’ll make a call as early as possible on the day depending on the bank and the conditions.
All other surfers, 7-7:45 am for the sign in and as usual, we try to get some of you young frothing cadet fellas out in the water straight away.

2012 has probably been the worst year in a decade in terms of having swell on scheduled comp days and has seen more cancelations than QANTAS. Unfortunately that is always a chance with a sport so dependent on the elements. What it does mean though is that the competition points for each surfer for this weekend’s competition will definitely count toward the season total; just as they will for the following comp on October 27.

The October 27 comp is up at Pacific Palms on the mid-north coast and each year there are 200 bonus points on offer for all competing surfers who contest the final competition. Accommodation is usually plentiful but starts to thin out as the event draws nearer, so get on line and book something through one of the web sites or local real estate agents as soon as you can to avoid having to sleep in the car. We’re hoping for a repeat of last year’s waves/bank/weather for the comp which could not have been better.

George Ritchie’s wife has told him not to bother coming home on Saturday night if he doesn’t finally get rid of all of the remaining members’ singlets and hoodies that have been ordered and until now, cluttering up his lounge room. So if you haven’t yet picked yours up, please help keep his marriage together by collecting it this Saturday.

We will draw the lucky ‘100 club’ number for $200 at the Sands Hotel after the comp too and stick around to watch the Rabbits wallop the Bulldogs and get a place in the grand final for the first time since sometime in the 1840’s or something.

For all you 100 clubbers, the end of year shin-dig has been booked in for 6pm on Saturday November 10 at The Rocks. Pencil in the date and let Matt know if you can come so we can have a good stab at the final ‘food to drinks on the bar’ ratio. The following Saturday November 17 will be the end of season awards afternoon/evening for Southend too; details to come soon.

So in short, see you on Saturday morning for some fun waves, some food, tunes and drinks courtesy of Eastern Tiling and for George’s reconciliation prior to more fun and footy at the Sands in the evening.

Ciao for now…
