The Southend AGM is done and dusted for another year. Congratulations to Mathew Lawson (Hickey) who was elected President of Southend for the 2015 & 2016 seasons. Matt becomes just the 6th ever president in our 31 year history behind Mark Windon, Brett Raby, Kyle Stevens, Wez Moore and takes over the reins from Jason Platts.

A big thank you to outgoing prez Plattsy for his outstanding contribution over the past 2 years as the president and his 30 years as a surfer with the club. Platts was the original super grom back when the club formed in 85 and within a few years was the A grade champ and one of the best surfers on the beach. Platts recently moved to the Gold Coast with his lovely family to meet up with a heap of old Southend boys who now call the Goldy home. Best of luck mate

Matt Lawson has been on the committee for the best part of 15 years and has helped shape the club become what it is today. There is no denying he is very passionate about all things Southend. The club, club surfers and all the little groms coming through. In his downtime between family & his day job he also has the responsibility of running the Southern Sydney Region for SNSW.

In other AGM news Richie Fairbarn and Rod Feher also joined the committee and Pete Sgouras was re-elected Club Treasurer. Congrats and thanks to all 3 and also a huge thank you to Richard Cass who has stepped down from the committee after 13 years on. Rich has helped move the club into the 21st century. He has re/building 3 websites in his time, added social media tools we use to engage day in day out with the our members, attracted heaps of different sponsors, our graphic designer for everything since forever and front man for nearly every presentation we have done since 2004. His laid back character as well as his charisma has brought balance to every discussion and his ability to reason with the most irrational people often leaves us speechless. It is no wonder that he was awarded Life membership in 2012. Thank you for everything DC. Good luck you trophy hunter.

So that is quick wrap of the AGM. Sign on was another huge success with 104 surfing members and 48 social members signing up all receiving their 2015 Club Shirts. We have also had another 22 more surfers join since that night. If you want to join before comp 1 just head to the “Purchase” tab on our website and select the division which you want to join.
