before Saturday, so 3ft waves and offshore winds are looking likely. The bad news is that there may be some possible coastal showers forecast so getting the tents up will be a priority and we might even see Ranga Rich wearing a jumper. Sign in will cut off at 8am sharp for Masters, Junior/ Open Mens and Cadet boys and 11am for Cadet Girls, Open Women’s and the Micro-groms.

We also wanted to give a shout out about the July comp (July 20), which as is tradition is the annual Sands Hotel Paul Baxter Shield. For those that don’t know much about it, check out the Baxter page. Basically it is an entertaining day of surfing on old twin-fin and single-fin boards (pre 1985), with plenty of food, music, shenanigans, boobie prizes and fancy dress up at the Sands Hotel for the presentation afterwards (the dress theme this year is TOYS). There’s a few Paul Baxter Shield pics on Facebook and videos on You-Tube if your search for them, but basically the deal is this: 4 Surfing teams are put together and surfers ‘tag’ each other after getting their 3 waves; there’s ‘double-whammy’ waves and time bonuses and a few other games to help teams notch up a few extra points that will see one lucky team being crowned as the Paul Baxter champions for 2013 and have their names added to the perpetual trophy on the wall at the Sands Hotel. Surfing entry for the twin/single fin comp is for anyone aged 14+ so if you are keen to surf and take part in the festivities, purchase your entry ($20) ASAP as there are limited spots
