Comp 7 rundown

There was a great roll up for the last event of 2013 up at Forster. Beautiful weather, super fun peaky 2-3ft waves with light winds. We went back to basics with this comp. No computerised scoring, tents, tables, chairs & no designated area. Just a flag on a stick and a crew on the beach watching on. Not that it worried anyone. With 4-5 peaks up and down the beach to choose from so there was plenty to go around.

With competitor numbers nowhere near that we have been use to at regular comps throughout the year we

were able to run 4 man heats / 20 min heats and 2nd chance repecharge heats. As usual the action in the water was spectacular. We had it all. Early round barrels, big moves, big airs, little airs and a number of top rated surfers misfiring with upsets aplenty. As the tide dropped in the afternoon the performance level turned up a notch.

Max McGuigan, Jason O’Rourke, Zac Michael & Kel Gollan stood out to make the Cadet Final. Max narrowly took it out. Zac 2nd and Jason 3rd, Kel 4th. In the Opens the younger guys Monty, Max (backing up from the cadets) and Chris threw down the challenge to the older crew. Platts, Matt O and Wayne Baldy didn’t take a backward step and in an excellent final. In the end it was young Monty who took the win over Platts and Wayne. In a short 4 minute burst Monty went from 4th or 5th to 1st catching 3 waves that blew everyone out of the water. You can see why this kid is the State Champ. Emma McGuigan won the Open Womens in a tight one over Lisa, Brooke and Gretel and Jamie Killorn and Andrew Karo took out the GM’s & B Grade respectively. In the Groms Kyrah Lawson won the Girls and Koda Killorn won the Boys finals. Finally Charlotte Wilson took out the Cadet Girls Final over Tegan Koolis. Well done to all the divisional winners. The win will certainly help you in the title race. As usual a big BBQ was held at Villa Manyana that evening to celebrate another successful year.

Thank you to all the parents / competitors who made the trip up to Pacific Palms. Special thanks to the crew at Dripping Wet Bondi who supplied us with a stack of gift vouchers which were presented to the groms and to Hive Swimwear who also donated vouchers which were presented to the girls/women.
