Comp 1 – This Saturday

This coming Saturday March 21 is our first competition of the 2015 surfing season proudly sponsored by Jay Transport.

It looks like the high pressure system sitting over the Southern Ocean at the moment will bring in some light southerly winds for Saturday and hopefully push in a short-period 3-4ft lumpy wind swell too, so even though the banks might not be the best right now, hopefully there are still a few sneaky peaks coming through. We will be setting up from 6:30am and could be anywhere on the beach. Keep an eye on Facebook (www.facebook.com/southend.boardriders ) and Instagram (SouthendBoardriders) to get the heads up on where we’ll be.Sign-on to surf

All Boys/Mens Divisions from Cadets up to Grand Masters need to be down on the sand to sign on between 7am and 7:15am. We need to close the sign on at 7:15 so we have time to enter in names and start the judging system for heat number 1 which starts at 7:30am. We know this all sounds quite early and officious, but there have been a fair few times in the last year or two when we have run out of daylight with so many heats and surfers, so we need to get things kicked off as early as possible. The first few heats in the water will be Cadet Boys heats.

Sign on for Boys and Girls Micros, Cadet Girls and Open Women’s cuts off at 11am.

As usual there will be BBQ breakfast and lunch provided, so after your heats, rather than head back home to mow lawns, paint fences or flood the world with Snapchats, hang out for the day and relax, you might even score a few prizes throughout the day and meet a few new faces. After the comp is finished, we’ll head back up the hill to the Sands Hotel for some dinner, darts and ping-pong. Grommets are welcome with a responsible adult, so if anyone knows one, please see if they can keep an eye on heap of grommets on Saturday night for us.
