Port Macquarie-Hastings Mayor Peter Besseling said Council is looking forward to continuing its great working relationship with Surfing NSW after having hosted the Australian Surfing Festival for several years.
He said the competition would provide an excellent opportunity to showcase the Greater Port Macquarie region’s beautiful beaches and ideal surf conditions to competitors and of course spectators.
“The beauty of hosting a junior surfing event is the ability to attract
parents and families to our region along with the competitors,” Cr Besseling said.
“This provides a further boost to the overall economic impact of the event. We are obviously pleased that Surfing NSW has selected Greater Port Macquarie for such a prestigious event and we will be doing everything we can to contribute towards its success.”
Surfing NSW CEO Mark Windon added: “The NSW Junior State Titles is one of the jewels on the Surfing NSW event calendar and we couldn’t ask for a better location to stage such a prestigious competition. Surfing NSW has had the privilege of running the Australian Surf Festival in Port Macquarie over the past six years and in that time we consistently got decent conditions for the event. We hope competitors in the NSW Junior State Titles get to sample a large variety of those aforementioned waves when the event comes to town in July.”
Recent Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast wildcard and Port Macquarie local, Matt Banting is a former NSW Junior State Title competitor.
Coastalwatch Plus will be the official forecast partner for the event, ensuring all competitors get the best waves possible.
The NSW Junior State Titles are sponsored by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, Port Macqaurie Tourism, HIF, Be the Influence, Australian Skin Cancer Clinics, Coastalwatch Plus, Carve, Ohana Ocean Athletics and Surfing NSW.
