It’s now half way through Southend’s contest season and this Saturdays comp (June 23) is shaping up as a very important one for those chasing point scores. With July’s comp being the Paul Baxter Shield teams event and the October ‘away’ comp held up at Pacific Palms on the mid-north coast, this only leaves 2 more competitions at Maroubra for the 2012 season.
Currently the conditions are looking to present pretty small waves on Saturday after a bit of a spike tomorrow. It will be another clean south swell with clear skies and favorable winds and we’ll keep our fingers crossed that there is enough of a wave to have a surf. Cadets sign in by 7:30am, Micros, Girls and Women by 11am – everyone else by 7:45am. PLEASE NOTE: Even if there are no waves on Saturday we will be having a toasty breakfast BBQ courtesy of Jazzright Production Services – so no matter what come down to see what is going on (and pick up your 2012 singlet/t-shirt if you haven’t already). Also if you’re keen for one of the new Southend ‘Keeping it Real’ Hoodies, they will be ordered in a week or so, so if you are webaphobic and would prefer to pay your $50 in cold hard cash, then we can sort that out on Saturday as well. ‘Wes the Pres’ will have some samples on Saturday for you to try on if you dont happen to know what size you are.
Also don’t forget to bring your $20 down this Saturday if you want to surf in this year’s Paul Baxter Shield! Remember Southend Boardriders club members have the first priority to pay and register. After comp 4 (this Saturday) surfing positions are made available to the general public and members of other board riding clubs. Spots are already filling up fast (currently less than 25 surfing spots available). Only by slapping down payment is your entry is guaranteed!
This year’s Baxter Shield is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever before. Last year it was big but this year will dwarf it in comparison as we completely step it up to another level in 2012. This year will include 2x DJ’s and 3 x rocking bands including international act Bad Religion! Once again we have a stack of unbelievable prizes including 2 x Custom Made SURFBOARDS! There are prizes for the best dressed competing surfers on the day (more details to be revealed shortly) and also best dressed at the presentation (Sands Hotel).
