100 Waves for a great cause

Southend Baordrider’s member Jordan Gilbert is once again putting his body on the line when he attempts to catch at least 100 waves in 1 day to raise money for charity on Wednesday April 6.

The 100 Waves Challenge is on again in 2016 and this year Jordan will be raising money for the SOAR orphanage in East Asia, run by Dave and Tab under Evergreen Projects. You can sponsor Jordan in his attempt to break 2014’s record of 103 waves in 1 day!  Donations will be handled by Anglican Aid, and so will be tax deductible with receipts issued.

The SOAR project cares for children with special needs, orphans and the abandoned. So far the program has been able to provide a bed for every child (54 kids!), toys to play with, classrooms to learn in, activity rooms and outdoor play areas to explore. Kids have taken their first steps and spoken their first words thanks to the love and care of Tab and her professional caregivers. Children are individually assessed, and personalised .

You can send him an email jordan@empireplans.com.au with a sponsorship amount, and/or post to the Facebook page (www.facebook.com/100waves) if you are interested in sponsoring. He is asking people to consider sponsorship of 20c, 50c, or $1 per wave surfed (or any other amount really).

Last year when raising funds for the World Surf Tour Chaplain, Abe Andrews and Jordan managed 105 waves. It’s a high mark but he is hoping to give that number a shake this year. Here’s how it went down last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wa58AxwpnZA
