Just a quick reminder that comp #2 for Southend Boardriders is on this weekend (Saturday April 27)! The swell will only be offering up a small but clean wave (not so good for us old fat fellas), but there should be plenty of fun to be had

by the younger (and lighter) surfers.
We are going to do the club photo this Saturday, around 11am, by which time we should have had a chance to hand out all of the remaining 2013 tee’s for anyone who hasn’t got theirs yet, so if you can be hanging around the tents at 11am, you’ll be lucky enough to get your funny face, blue-steel or cheesy grin recorded and locked in for posterity. As usual this Saturday, Masters, A/B Grade and Cadet boys sign in by 7:30am, Cadet girls, open Women, and Micro Grom’s sign in by 11am. We could be anywhere on the beach depending on where the best banks and waves will be so look for the red tents. The BBQ and awesome tunes (hand selected by Rich purely to annoy Tom North) will be cranked early. Please make sure you bring a cup/mug or drink bottle if you want to re-hydrate with our snazzy lime cordial throughout the day – we have decided that it is probably better for us to not provide an endless amount of paper or plastic cups to add to landfill.
In 2013, all of the Junior Boys surfers (aged 15,16,17 in 2013) have been drafted up into the opens A or B Grade divisions to encourage them to push their competitive surfing and hassling against us old, crafty, vindictive types. Depending on the conditions and number of surfers, Junior boys aged surfers who don’t progress past round 1 will also have a chance at a separate final to see who gets the monthly bragging rights as the up-and-coming junior talent.
We’d also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone about the Southside Junior Regional Titles coming up on May 4 at Maroubra. Entries close next Monday April 29 and there are no beach starts, so if you are keen to have a crack (and we definitely recommend you do) then visit http://www.surfingaustralia.com/nsw/event.php?id=748 for more information and to register to surf. The cost is only $40 and this is the launch pad to move on to the state and Aussie titles. A lot of the younger crew have been posting some great finishes lately (Emma McGuigan and Joey Michaels the most recent) so we expect great things for Maroubra on May 4!
See you on Saturday at the beach and then back up at the Sands Hotel for the Southend 100 Club draw ($200 cash won and quickly spent on squid jigs last month by Adam (Addsy) Lawrence ; Badge #77).
