G’day Members,
Comp 1 Maroubra Surf & Sk8 Pro-Am done and dusted and what a great day it was! It was great to see all of our members down there enjoying the event. It was a cracking day, waves were pumping, sun was shining, the surfing was next level and a big crowd was on hand to enjoy it all.
In terms of competitor numbers Comp 1 was our biggest comp day we have run since 2023. Our president Tye Koolis picked the Skatepark bank and his call was spot on. It was the best bank on the beach from the first to last heat. The level of surfing, through all divisions, was amazing and by the time we got to the finals it went to another level. The big crowd on the beach lapped it up. One of the Head Judges from SNSW commented that it was one of the highest quality club surfing events that he has judged and many of the older boys called it one of the best comps ever. Unfortunately due to the large swell the Micros didn’t run but conditions look great for this weekend so it should be all systems go.

COMP 2 – 2025 Southend Boardriders Season It has been a short turnaround between comps and we are very excited for the weekends event. This weekends competition is proudly brought to you by the great team at barmilano restaurant and bar at Maroubra Beach. \

Just remember, you need to sign up by Thursday, May 15th at 5:00 PM at the latest! After registration closes, our team will organise the heat draw and the days schedule by Friday. Make sure to check our social media pages to find out where we’ll be setting up on the beach. The Southend Micro Groms will meet at the competition tent at 10:30am for an 11am start, with thanks to our sponsors Let’s Go Surfing. Lars and the crew from Lets Go Surfing are really excited for this weekend as conditions are looking fantastic for the young crew. Parents, please bring your child’s board, wetsuit, towel, and sunscreen. The Southend team will have selected a safe sandbank for the kids to surf on before your arrival. We’ll head down to the beach as a group and begin with a warm-up, followed by a discussion about the surf conditions. Then we’ll hold a fun mini-competition where parent assistance in the water is encouraged. We welcome parents and club members to get involved and help us develop the next generation of Southend surfers.
FORECAST Waves for the comp are currently expected in the super fun 2-3 foot range or waist to chest high. It will be a straight East swell so we will have a few options to pick from. Winds are predicted to be offshore till the mid-afternoon before turning southerly. Water temp is still a lovely 21 degrees.
