G’day All,
Winter has set in and we saw some big swell up and down the coastline last week. The swell has backed off and it will be interesting to see how the banks shape up when the next swell hits. It has been a short turnaround between comps and that is due to the Beach Breaks event that is being held at Maroubra Beach next weekend Saturday – Sunday 19-20th July. The Beach Break event will induct a new surfer into the International Surfing Walk of Fame plus the Beach Breaks crew have added a new Surftag event to the schedule. Southend have entered a team to take on the other board riding clubs from the Eastern Suburbs to see who will claim the newly minted Beach Breaks Trophy. Keep an eye on the socials next week and we will share more info on the event as it comes to hand.
JULY COMP
Event #4 of the 2025 PRD Perez Real Estate Southend Championship will run this weekend 12th July at Maroubra Beach. This month’s competition is proudly brought to you by The Souths Juniors Group of Clubs. The Juniors have been proud and passionate sponsors of our club and our surfing community for the last 15 years. Head over Liveheats – Souths Juniors Cup and hit the “REGISTER” button. Just remember, you need to sign up by Thursday, July 10th at 5:00 PM!
After registration closes, our team will organise the heat draw and the day’s schedule by Friday. Make sure to check our social media pages to find out where we’ll be setting up on the beach. Also, keep an eye on the LiveHeats website throughout the event day as the heat draw does change based on conditions.
Forecast
Waves for the comp are expected to be in 2 ft+ range. Sunny but cool winter’s day is forecast. Winds are offshore all day and swell will be direct from the South so it will be interesting to see how much swell pushes into Maroubra. Water temp is definitely cooling sitting around the 17 degree mark. So, if you haven’t got your steamer head over to see Craig at Maroubra Surf and Skate Surf shop and he’ll sort you out.
Micro Grom Program
Micro Groms will meet at the competition tent at 10:15am for a 10.30am start, with thanks to our sponsors Let’s Go Surfing. After the big swell the banks have shifted around and so there are a few options available for the young rippers to enjoy. Lars and the crew from Lets Go Surfing are pumped for this weekend’s comp too.
Southend Hoodies + Tees available for pick up this weekend
The 2025 Southend Hoodies have arrived and will be available to be picked up at this weekend’s comp.
RESULTS FROM PREVIOUS COMPS
Comp 2 – Barmilano Trophy. A big turnout of 115 surfers on a lovely winter’s day. Comp was held in some nice 3ft waves on the ever consistent skatepark bank. Congrats to all finalists and winners
Cadet Boys – Toby Klein
Junior Girls – Lauren Rogers
Junior Boys – Archie Goulding
B Grade – Finn Appleton
Grand Master – Brett Anderson
Legends – Timmy Bell
A Grade Mens – Tye Koolis
Open Women – Luana Galardo
Comp 3 – The Beach Burrito Bowl – If you saw the waves on Friday night there was no way that there were going to be waves on Saturday but to our surprise Huey waves his magical wand and send us fun + clean 2ft occasional bigger waves. Morning was great but the wave energy dropped through the day. We squeezed in the finals and by the time we packed up it was flat. The young crew headed down to Coogee Beach Burrito and partied there into the night. Congrats to all winners of comp 3
Cadet Boys – Toby Klein
Junior Girls – Taclica Vakaciwa
Junior Boys – Cruz Holman
B Grade – Craig Lawrence
Grand Master – Eduardo Ferrero
Legends – Brad Koolis
A Grade Mens – Tye Koolis
Open Women – Gracie Ball
*** Reminder only your top 4 results (of the 5 comps) will count towards determining where you finish in final ratings. So don’t be bummed if you miss an event. It just means that you need to go hell for leather at the events you can make.
