Southend Comp 1 – Maroubra Beach Surf & Skate Pro-Am – This Saturday

G’day Members

Wow what a month it’s been! Some of the largest swells in years have hit the east coast and many of our members have been chasing swells from Burleigh all the way down to the NSW / Vic border. The large swells have created some excellent sandbanks up and down the beach so we will have plenty of options for this weekend’s competition.

2025 CONTEST DATES…
Comp 1: Saturday 03 May
Comp 2: Saturday 17 May
Comp 3: Saturday 14 June
Comp 4: Saturday 12 July
Comp 5: Saturday 09 August
Comp 6: Saturday 13 September

COMP 1 – 2025 Southend Boardriders Season

Just remember, you need to sign up by Thursday, May 1st at 5:00 PM at the latest!

Once registration closes, our team will organise the heat draw and the comp days schedule by Friday. On Saturday morning make sure to check our social media pages to find out where we’ll be setting up on the beach. Also, keep an eye on the LiveHeats website throughout the event day as the heat draw does change based on conditions.

NEW MEMBERS
If you’re new to our events and wondering what to expect, we’ve got you covered! Check out our “New Member Orientation” article on the New Member Orientation | SOUTHEND BOARDRIDERS MAROUBRA website for all the basics.

SURF FORECAST
Waves for the comp are expected to be in the 3-4 foot range. Swell should be coming in from the South East so there will be a few banks to pick from. Winds are light early turning southerly. Water temp is still a balmy 23 degrees.

MICRO GROMS PROGRAM
The Southend Micro Groms will meet at the competition tent at 10:30am for an 11am start, with thanks to our sponsors Let’s Go Surfing.

Parents, please bring your child’s board, wetsuit, towel, and sunscreen. The Southend team will have selected a safe sandbank for the kids to surf on before you arrive. We’ll head down to the beach as a group and begin with a warm-up. We’ll then hold a fun mini-competition where parent assistance in the water is encouraged.

We welcome parents and club members to get involved and help us develop the next generation of Southend surfers.

SPONSORS SPOTLIGHT
A huge thank you to our long-time friends and Gold Sponsors, Craig and Susie from Maroubra Beach Surf & Skate. Their generosity and support have played a big part in making our events so special. We’re stoked to have them sponsoring Comp #1 this year.

OTHER NEWS
On the club front, we’re still looking for a few more sponsors to come on board for this competition season. If you know any local businesses that want to get their name out there and connect with our active community, please let them know about this opportunity. Sponsoring our club isn’t just about getting your logo seen-it’s a way to support local sport and help keep our events running strong. If you or someone you know is interested, reach out and we can send through the sponsorship details.

Our club runs on the energy and commitment of our members and volunteers. We still have a few vacant roles including

  • Social Media Manager x 2
  • Male & Female surfer representatives
  • Micro Groms coordinator
  • Events Manager – Organising social events including end of year presentation.

If you’ve got some time to spare, hit us up on Instagram chat or have a chat with the president Tye Koolis this weekend.

Finally keep an eye on all our socials (Instagram & Facebook) for all event updates and also keep an eye on LiveHeats Liveheats.com for all surfing updates including heat draw, heat times and event schedule.

Waves will be pumping and we look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday morning
