Heartbreaking news

Many of you will have already heard of the very sad news of the sudden passing of a great mate and family man, Jason Riley.

Jason started off as a young Southend grommet almost 30 years ago and his young fella Brodie is a keen little grommet in our Micros division today. Jas loved the water and in particular his fishing.

He leaves behind his beautiful family, wife Nadia and kids Brodie and Kalani, his extended family and a wide network of friends, all of whom are devastated by this heart-breaking loss.

There is a Go Fund Me page set up to help out the family, please consider clicking through to donate a few bucks to help them at this difficult time. https://www.gofundme.com/in-loving-memory-of-jason-riley

Comp #1 OPEN

Southend Boardriders Point Score #1 is on this Saturday March 24 at Maroubra Beach. At this stage waves are looking pretty decent for the first comp of the year with a forecasted 3-4 foot of E/SE swell on the card!

Early adopters of available technology, Southend have always tried to continually improve the way we run and operate our club competitions. In 2018 we are using the ‘LiveHeats’ Surf Contest Management platform to both register (join up) and also sign-on for surf contests. To surf in Southend Boardriders this year you will need to firstly become a financial member and then sign on for each individual Club Competition you will be competing in.

Comp #1 proudly supported by the Brien Holden Vision Institute, is currently OPEN for sign on competition entry. You will need to sign on prior to comp closing to be able to surf.  *Micros please note: we will be doing the old fashioned manual sign on for club comp #1 Continue reading

Brien Holden Vision Institute Clinical Trials

Brien Holden Vision Institute is one of the world’s leading research facilities for eye care, located at the University of NSW.  They are conducting clinical studies on contact lenses and skin lotions to improve eye comfort right now.

Southend Boardriders are extremely pleased to be partnering with the Brien Holden Vision Institute to help work together to raise awareness of the problems surrounding vision impairment and recruit new participants to their clinical trials. This is to help develop and test innovative products for vision correction!

What is a Clinical Trial?

A clinical trial is a closely supervised investigation which aims to find out, or confirm, how a product or technique works. At Brien Holden Vision Institute we conduct clinical trails involving eye related products and techniques for vision correction .

These may include :

  • Contact Lenses
  • Spectacles
  • Skin Creams
  • New optical instruments and techniques

These trials, an integral part of the Institute’s research activities to improve eye care, rely heavily on the invaluable contributions of volunteer participants . Without volunteers research into new and improved methods of vision correction would not be possible.

If you would like to know more about these trials they would love to hear for you. To join their Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/groups/sydneytrialscentre/?ref=group_header .  They actually have an information evening to find out more about what they do and how you can help at Randwick Golf Club, Howe Street Malabar on Tuesday 27 March 6-8pm .
